Payer Surrogates in Dr Bill Exchange are companies that process medical bills on behalf of the actual payer.  These come in several forms and sizes.  Bill Review and Bill Review software companies are in the category, and come in a broad range of sizes, and handle everthing from full service to just parts of the re-pricing process.  Other vendor types, including networks and specialty review companies, also offer their customers more than just their own services by bundling togehter or private labeling other services. 

Dr Bill is designed to support such businesses that may process bills on behalf of multiple payers, just as it is designed to comprehensively manage bills for multiple claims processors like TPAs.  In most cases, payer surrogates will implement themselves as both vendors and payers under Dr Bill.  This maximizes their ability to act in either (and usually both) roles, but also facilitates bill intake from multiple sources.

In general, payer surrogates will gain the same benefits that payers in the same line of business would gain, but with additional support for multiple clients, multiple bill sources, and complex bill management.
